About Us.

The Selectmen Club of San Jose was founded in 1966 by seven men who shared common interests and goals. Initially, the Club was formed to foster social connections among these individuals.

The founding members decided to meet once a month, rotating between each other’s homes. The name “Selectmen” reflected the core principle of how new members would be chosen – each had to be carefully “selected.” Membership required high moral character, active or retired employment, and residence in Santa Clara County.

Over time, the group grew to fifteen members and expanded to include individuals from neighboring counties. Since its founding, the Selectmen Club has continued to focus on social interaction, hosting various events such as the Installation Brunch in March,

an Annual Golf Tournament in June, a Picnic in July, and the Scholarship Dinner Dance fundraiser each November, where we proudly celebrate our scholarship honorees.

In 1990, the Club took a significant step by establishing the Selectmen Club Scholarship Fund, aimed at providing financial support to deserving students.

Today, the Selectmen Club Scholarship Fund is a recognized 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in California, dedicated to fostering charitable, educational, and cultural opportunities for the community.

Through a variety of programs and activities, we remain committed to enriching the recreational, educational, and cultural lives of those we serve.

Lasting Impact

The Selectmen Club of San Jose is deeply committed to supporting local students through its Scholarship Fund, a California 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Established in 1990, the fund provides financial assistance to deserving students with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher, ensuring that more young people have the opportunity to pursue higher education, regardless of their financial background.

The scholarships are made possible through community-driven events, hosted by the Selectmen Club. These events, held throughout the year, foster community spirit while raising funds for the scholarship program. Whether it’s a local festival, charity auction, or social gathering, these events bring together neighbors, businesses, and leaders who are passionate about investing in the future of San Jose’s students.

By participating in these events, either through donations or active involvement, you are directly contributing to the education and growth of the next generation. Your support helps local students reach their full potential, giving them the tools to succeed in college and beyond.

Each spring, the scholarship committee, with great care and consideration, reaches out to a variety of high schools across Santa Clara County to encourage eligible students to apply. The committee ensures that scholarships are awarded to students who not only meet the academic criteria but also demonstrate a need for financial assistance. The Selectmen Club believes in the power of community and education to transform lives, and your involvement can help make that vision a reality.

Together, we can make a lasting impact on our students, our schools, and our community.
